Indian Railways introduced the Tatkal Ticket Booking in 1997 in India. Tatkal Ticket meant that a passenger who wants to travel by train at a short notice pride, this type of passenger can book the train ticket in Tatkal scheme.


A passenger can book Tatkal Ticket through online or offline. But it has a fixed time for booking Tatkal ticket. Booking for Tatkal ticket of AC classes open at 10:00 AM & for the non-AC or Sleeper classes open at 11:00 AM, one day in advance of the actual date of the train departure from the source station.

Under the Tatkal scheme, passengers get no refund for cancellation of confirmed tatkal train tickets except in some special circumstances. Special circumstances like - if the train is delayed by more than three hours or the train is to run on a diverted route, in this case, a refund of fare and Tatkal charges granted on confirmed Tatkal train ticket by IRCTC rules.

    1. The opening time of Tatkal ticket is 10:00am for AC, 11:00am for non-AC

    2. Two Tatkal tickets can be booked for single user ID, as IRCTC rules.

    3. Two Tatkal tickets can be booked per IP address between 10:00-12:00 AM.

    4. Authorised agents are not allowed to book tickets between 8:00am to 8:30am, 10:00am to
        10:30am, & 11:00am to 11:30am.

    5. Authorised agents cannot book Tatkal ticket first half an hour of the opening of reservation.

    6. Captcha has been implemented in registration, login & booking pages, to avoid fraudulently
        booking through automation software.

     7. OTP (one-time password) method is compulsory for all internet banking payment options.

     8.  No concession is allowed in Tatkal ticket booking through online or offline.
